“Reversing the signs of aging is not just for women,”
reports Dr. Clevens, “More and more men are getting Botox treatments and I am
one of them.”
According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic
Surgery, American men underwent more than a million cosmetic procedures in 2007
-- a 17 per cent increase from the previous year. Botox Cosmetic was one of the
top two procedures.
“Many people may be surprised that a large number of my patients
are men seeking a refreshed and more youthful look,” states Dr. Clevens, “ Men
age just as women do in that they may begin to look angry or tired as
expression lines become more prominent and permanent.”
Men are increasingly seeking treatments for lines and
wrinkles. Anti-aging treatments including Botox and Injectable Fillers such as
Radiesse, Restylane, and Juvederm are gaining popularity among men, businessmen
in particular seeking to advance their careers or stay ahead of younger
competition. It is also not uncommon for men to see the benefit their wife or
girlfriend gets from Botox Cosmetic and Injectable Filler treatments while
wanting the same refreshed look for themselves. “Male patients often request a
Botox treatment to look better, or more rested for a special event such as
weddings, reunions, and speaking engagements,” adds Dr. Clevens.
“Most commonly, men are requesting Botox Cosmetic
treatments to the forehead lines, the frown lines (the lines between the eyes),
and the crows feet (near the temples). We are also seeing an increase in men
requesting an injectable filler, such as Radiesse to the smile lines (from the
bottom of the nose to the corners of the lips) that have lost volume with age,”
states Dr. Clevens.
These anti-aging treatments appeal to men in the same way
they appeal to women. Due to the nature of these no-downtime and immediate
result treatments, you can easily get treated on your lunch break and return to
work. People will notice they look better, but they won't know what they have
had done.
Though in many cultures it is still considered to be a bit
taboo for men to discuss their anti-aging secrets and success stories with one
another, an increasing number of men are changing history by talking about and
having cosmetic procedures. This is significant because as more men continue to
open up about their concerns and desires about having Botox and other cosmetic
enhancements, this trend will continue to rise.
