Many patients have questions about the Mohs Surgery. I would like
to take this time to address what Mohs Surgery is and why it's a
treatment of choice in the removal of some forms of skin cancer.
The Mohs Surgery provides the most precise method for removal of
the cancerous tissue, while sparing the greatest amount of healthy
tissue. For this reason, the Mohs surgery may result in a
significantly smaller surgical defect and less noticeable scarring,
as compared to other methods of skin cancer treatment.
The Mohs Surgery can be recommended for the removal of skin cancer
in areas where maximum preservation of healthy tissue is desirable
for cosmetic and functional purposes, such as the face. The Mohs
Surgery may also be recommended for lesions that have recurred
following prior treatment, or for lesions which have the greatest
likelihood of recurrence.
A consultation is the best way to
evaluate whether the Mohs Surgery is the most appropriate treatment
option for your particular diagnosis. A consultation is beneficial in
addressing your specific questions, ensuring that you are well
prepared for the procedure. If it is determined that Mohs Surgery is
not the best option for you, I can recommend appropriate alternative
therapies.
