Eyebrow Lift Gaining Popularity
Posted July 21, 2008 8:38 PM
An eyebrow lift is a procedure steadily gaining popularity among men and
women in the 35-65 age group. Eyebrow lifts are also referred to as forehead
lifts. If you are unhappy with the lines across your forehead or the looseness
of the skin on your forehead, an eyebrow lift just may be the solution you have
been looking for.
An eyebrow lift can be performed in two different ways. In the
"open" approach, one continuous incision across the crown of the head
is made at the hairline. Then the muscles and tissue of the forehead that are
responsible for wrinkles or deep frown lines are cut, removed, or otherwise
treated.
Alternatively, the brow lift can be performed endoscopically with the
assistance of a scope through a small incision at the temples, within the hairline.
Instead of making one long incision, a few shorter incisions are made in the
scalp. A scope is then inserted into one of the incisions in order to view the
tissues and muscles from a screen. At the same time, another device will be
inserted in another incision to make the necessary alterations. Endoscopic
surgery is less invasive than the traditional approach, and the incisions are
much smaller.
For the procedure, patients are either administered general anesthesia or
local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. After surgery, patients wear a
tight pressure dressing for the first few days to a week following the
procedure. The bruising and swelling will go down after several days. An eye
brow lift is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered under insurance plans. Be
sure to inquire about price and financing options prior to scheduling this
procedure.

Botox Prevents Migraines
Posted July 21, 2008 3:45 PM
We have known for some time now that Botox Cosmetic injections have helped migraine sufferers. Many of our patients who have a history of migraines have remarked that the number of migraines they suffer from is significantly reduced or even completely gone after their Botox Cosmetic treatment. Patients also declare that if they do get a migraine they know it’s ‘time to get another Botox treatment.’ Since Botox Cosmetic is a temporary treatment, its effects can gradually wear off at about 3 to 6 months after injection.
Recently the results of a study evaluating the efficacy of Botox injections for the treatment or migraines were published in Reuters Health.
In a study lasting six months in Springfield, Missouri a group of doctors evaluated the efficacy of a single series of Botox injections, versus placebo shots, for preventing migraine.
Their findings were reported in the journal Headache that Botox had "beneficial, albeit limited, effects on measures of migraine frequency and was not effective in lowering headache pain severity." However, Botox-treated patients did have fewer headache "episodes" and fewer headache days than placebo-treated patients.
Moreover, Botox had a "measurable" positive impact on quality-of-life.
Botox "may be a useful treatment option" for headache patients who aren't doing well on other migraine preventive agents.
While you may have thought Botox was only for those in vain- it’s also for those with migraines.
