Why Dimpleplasty?

Add natural-looking dimples to your cheeks.

Dimples, the indentations on the lower part of an individual’s cheeks when they smile, have long been regarded in many cultures as signs of beauty and good fortune.

Dimpleplasty, or dimple plastic surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that allows you to create dimples and draw more attention to your smile. Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS, and Renata Khelemsky, MD, both facial plastic surgery specialists, are highly sought after for surgeries of the face, including dimpleplasty. They perform this safe outpatient procedure in our state-of-the-art offices.

Dimpleplasty Benefits

For patients who want to create or restore dimples.

If you were born without dimples but have always longed for them, dimpleplasty can help you achieve the look you want. Dimpleplasty also can restore dimples that have disappeared or faded over time. Many of our patients had dimples as children, but lost them with their baby fat.

Dimples tend to make a person look more attractive and are a major confidence booster. Once you have the procedure, you don’t need to get it again; dimpleplasty is permanent.

Hear Dr. Clevens explain the permanence of dimpleplasty.

Dimpleplasty Procedure

An in-office procedure performed under local anesthesia.

The dimple surgery itself takes roughly 30 minutes to complete and is relatively painless. First, Dr. Clevens or Dr. Khelemsky will mark the area where they’ll create your dimples so that you’re fully aware of the placement on the cheek and you agree with the location of your new dimples. Your surgeon will make a small incision inside the mouth and operate on the buccinator muscle, creating dimples.

From the outside, there are few signs of surgery and bruising is uncommon. Dr. Clevens and Dr. Khelemsky use dissolvable stitches and achieve natural-looking results with fast recovery times.

Dimple Surgery Recovery

Go home immediately after surgery.

After your dimpleplasty, minor fullness is normal, but it should go away on its own within a few days. Ice packs combined with antibiotics and pain medication prescribed by your surgeon can reduce any discomfort and aid in healing. Most patients are able to return to work or school two days after surgery.

Post-procedural care is critical to ensuring fast and proper recovery from dimple plastic surgery. At our Florida facial plastic surgery practice, Dr. Clevens and Dr. Khelemsky recommend using an antiseptic mouthwash to prevent any infection and keep the area clean. You’ll want to avoid making extreme facial expressions to ensure the best healing possible. During your follow-up appointment, your surgeon will assess the results and make sure your healing is going as smoothly as expected.

Dimple Surgery FAQs

How should I prepare for dimple surgery?

Individuals who are planning to undergo cheek dimple surgery should first find a facial plastic surgery specialist who has experience with this procedure. After finding the right surgeon, it’s important to schedule a consultation to make sure you’re a good candidate and that the surgeon is able to help you achieve your goals. During this initial appointment, be sure to discuss any possible risks of surgery.

At our practice in Melbourne, Florida located in Brevard County, near Orlando & Central Florida, our doctors have expertise with dimpleplasty surgery and can answer any questions you have about this popular procedure.

How much does dimple surgery cost?

Dimpleplasty can cost between $3,000 and $4,000 depending on the market and the experience of your surgeon, and depending on whether the patient is having both sides of the face done. Since this procedure is not covered by medical insurance, the price will be out of pocket. Many practices provide financing. Any complications (though rare) can cause the overall cost to increase.

Can dimples be removed?

In order to remove a dimple, Dr. Clevens and Dr. Khelemsky use the same procedure they use for dimple creation, but instead of suturing the skin to the cheek, they free the skin of the cheek from the muscle below it where the dimple occurs. Sometimes, a slight dent in the cheek is still present, in which case it can be smoothed out with a filler.

Are there any risks with dimple surgery?

Complications with dimpleplasty are very rare, but possible risks include bleeding, redness and swelling, infection, and scarring.

Scarring is rare but remains a risk of getting dimple creation surgery. Individuals who scar very easily or have a significantly impaired immune system may not be the best candidates.

How do I choose the right facial plastic surgeon near me to perform dimple surgery?

Choosing a plastic surgeon for any type of cosmetic surgery is not a task to take lightly. Make sure the doctors you’re considering for dimple surgery are experienced, fellowship-trained facial plastic surgery specialists. Qualified candidates should be able to prove that they can help you achieve your goals by sharing before and after pictures of actual patients.
