Why Consider a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is the perfect choice for individuals who are interested in reducing loose, stretched skin on their abdomen. This procedure removes excess skin, while also tightening separated abdominal muscles caused by pregnancy or weight changes. As a result, you’ll enjoy a smooth, flat tummy and a more contoured midsection.

Deciding on Your Tummy Tuck Procedure

A tummy tuck procedure tightens your stomach muscles while also removing excess skin and fat. It is not considered a weight loss solution, but it can help your weight-loss efforts along with a sensible diet and fitness level.

Many moms choose a tummy tuck after pregnancy to restore their bodies. Other patients choose a tummy tuck after significant weight loss has left excess overhanging skin.

Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

Every patient is unique, with their own individual set of cosmetic aspirations and physical characteristics, so it’s essential to speak with our body contouring specialists to determine if you’re a great candidate for a tummy tuck. During your consultation, we’ll get to know your body type, your cosmetic goals, your lifestyle, and everything else there is to know about how we can design a treatment plan that unites you with your ideal results. Our goal is to help you enjoy all the confidence and body positivity that you deserve.

Benefits of the Tummy Tuck

Our patients absolutely love the tummy tuck procedure for its ability to create the following positive outcomes:

  • A flatter, smoother, and more toned abdominal appearance
  • The removal of excess or loose skin for a natural look
  • An improvement in the curvature of the waist
  • Tightened stomach muscles
  • Boosted confidence
  • The ability to fit more comfortably into your favorite outfits
  • A generally enthusiastic, renewed outlook on life

Details About the Tummy Tuck Procedure

At Clevens Face and Body Specialists, no two surgeries are ever exactly alike. Your abdominoplasty procedure will be directly tailored to your needs and desires, and your surgeon will go over all the details of your surgical experience—including your rest and recovery—during your preoperative consultation.

A tummy tuck procedure involves removing excess skin and tightening the abdominal area for a toned and smooth look.

Our surgeons can perform a tummy tuck using multiple techniques, with complete abdominoplasty being the most common procedure. This involves two incisions, one across the lower abdomen and one around the navel.

During a partial tummy tuck, a shorter abdominal incision will be made to correct isolated skin deposits below the navel.  Patients may also be a candidate for our drainless tummy tuck.

The best way to find out which type of tummy tuck is right for you is to meet with our team and explore your options during an in-person consultation. Our body contouring specialists have extensive experience designing treatment plans that enhance our patients’ natural good looks, restoring their body confidence and quality of life in equal measure. Your surgeon will choose the technique that creates your ideal results, and you’ll be kept informed and comfortable at every step of the process.

Resting and Recovering After Your Abdominoplasty

Our patients generally feel well enough to return to work in about one to two weeks, sometimes less. Complete recovery after a tummy tuck can take up to six months, but most people can return to work within two weeks.

It’s important to avoid strenuous exercise for six weeks. If we used drains in your tummy tuck procedures, we’ll remove these within one to three weeks, and you’ll wear a compression garment for three to four weeks.

Your Comfort Is Our Priority

Our team is here to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible throughout the healing process. We also offer the option of a local analgesic medicine, Exparel, to minimize discomfort and the need for any narcotic medications. After the swelling subsides, you’ll notice a natural, toned appearance in your abdomen. Our board-certified body contouring surgeons will guide you through every aspect of your procedure in detail, walking you through your recovery process and beyond. We work hard to form lasting relationships with our patients, and always go the extra mile to ensure that they’re able to enjoy truly world-class results, created by a caring and attentive surgical team.

Is there a nonsurgical alternative to the tummy tuck?

While some creams and non-invasive products tout the ability to tighten the skin, they do not have the ability to create a tighter abdomen. Repairing muscles that have pulled apart during pregnancy or removing excess sagging skin can only be achieved through an abdominoplasty.

Can I get a tummy tuck if I am overweight?

An abdominoplasty is not a weight loss solution, and patients who are considering the procedure are advised to be at a healthy, stable weight. However, sometimes a tummy tuck can also be a part of ongoing weight loss efforts, even if you haven’t yet reached your goal.

Will my tummy tuck incisions show?

Yes, an abdominoplasty does result in a visible incision line that runs from hip to hip, close to your pelvic bone. Our breast and body specialists will carefully place any incisions so they can be concealed under clothing or swimwear.

What are the risks of a tummy tuck procedure?

Complications from a tummy tuck are rare. However, as it is a surgical procedure, there is a small risk of infection, excessive bleeding, visible incision, asymmetry, and long-lasting numbness. In the hands of an experienced board certified plastic surgery specialist, any risks are greatly reduced.

Will a tummy tuck remove my stretch marks?

It is not likely that all signs of stretching will be addressed by an abdominoplasty alone. However, we offer laser treatments to diminish the appearance of stretch marks. During your consultation appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals with our board-certified body contouring specialists and have all your concerns addressed.

Can I get pregnant after having a tummy tuck?

While it is safe to become pregnant following a tummy tuck, it can undo the results of the procedure. The changing size of your tummy may stretch your abdominal muscles and cause your skin to sag. If you are considering becoming pregnant, our breast and body specialists recommend waiting until all childbearing is complete.

Can I have a tattoo on my tummy tuck incisions?

We recommend that patients wait a year after their tummy tuck before tattooing over the incisions. This will provide adequate time for incisions to heal and swelling to resolve completely. It will take a full year after your procedure to determine how much the incisions will fade.

How much does a tummy tuck cost?

The cost of an abdominoplasty may vary depending on where you have the procedure, the qualifications of your doctor, and whether you combine your tummy tuck with other procedures. At our practice in Melbourne, Florida, our experienced board-certified plastic surgeons perform tummy tuck procedures starting at $9,000. If you are seeking more information about having a tummy tuck in Merritt Island or Melbourne, FL, please schedule your consultation with our board-certified body contouring plastic surgery specialists.
