How Laser Skin Resurfacing Can Help You

Depending on the type of laser we use, laser skin resurfacing helps you by not only creating topical improvements but also by working to tighten your skin on a deeper level. Laser energy is also useful for addressing wrinkles, correcting blemishes, and improving the texture and color of the skin. This treatment ultimately creates a much more youthful appearance, so you can enjoy radiant skin that positively glows.

  • Scars (including acne scarring)
  • Rosacea

A Wide Array of Possibilities

Dr. Clevens has invested in one of the largest collections of lasers in the Central Florida area, ensuring that you have access to the most options when developing your treatment plan. Your doctor will discuss which laser skin resurfacing device makes the most sense for your skin type and degree of sun and skin damage, as well as your available downtime.

Your laser skin resurfacing treatment may take 30 to 90 minutes to perform, during which time your laser specialist will provide protective eyewear for you and expertly glide the laser across your skin. For a more comfortable experience, we provide numbing creams and offer Clevens Comfort+ which is a patient-administered medicine that reduces anxiety and discomfort during your treatment.

At our Central Florida practice, we also offer patients alternatives such as chemical peels to refresh the skin. We can discuss both options during your consultation.

Recovery After Laser Skin Resurfacing

Your recovery time will depend on the laser used during your treatment. In addition to your skin type, we’ll take into account how long you can dedicate to recovery before selecting your ideal laser treatment. Non-ablative lasers, which leave the surface of the skin intact, take 20 to 30 minutes to treat the full face with an in-office session. These lasers don't require anesthesia and create just a little bit of redness that lasts for about 24 hours, so you can resume your ordinary activities the next morning.

Some lasers, such as the fully ablative CO2 laser, require seven to 10 days of recovery before you can apply makeup or resume your ordinary activities. Following your laser skin resurfacing treatment, we recommend that you keep your skin moisturized, wear sunscreen, and avoid direct sunlight. We’ll provide you with written instructions and an educational session prior to the procedure so you can learn more about what to expect during both your treatment and recovery.

The advantage of laser skin resurfacing is that you have the option of resurfacing an entire region, meaning you can limit your results to the area around your mouth or treat your entire face. Laser energy will address all of the lines and wrinkles in the treatment area, including the ones that appear when your face is at rest.

Dermal fillers like Restylane or Juvederm work best in isolated areas to fill in nasolabial folds, lift the cheeks, and address individual lines and wrinkles.

BOTOX helps address lines and wrinkles that are a result of muscle movement caused by making facial expressions, like frown lines on the forehead. BOTOX, however, does not correct lines and wrinkles that appear when your face is not in motion.

What’s the difference between laser skin tightening and laser skin resurfacing?

Not all lasers do all things. Instead, lasers are designed to help you accomplish particular goals.

There are specific types of lasers and radiofrequency treatments that aim to tighten the skin, which can lift the cheeks, tighten the jawline, or tighten the neckline to create a more youthful, contoured appearance. The lasers that are used for tightening don't necessarily address lines and wrinkles.

How long does it take to see my results for fractional CO2 treatment?

The results are seen in two phases. After a week or so of healing from fractional laser skin resurfacing, you’ll see some immediate changes in the texture and quality of your skin. Your skin will be smoother and many of those superficial lines and wrinkles will be removed, for a look that is relatively free of blemishes and imperfections.

The second phase of healing takes four to six months and, in some cases can last between six and 12 months. During this time period, the body creates new collagen, new elastin, and new reticular fibers in the skin. This builds up the presence of collagen, improving the strength and elasticity of your skin for improved tightening and elasticity over time.

What lasers are used for laser skin resurfacing?

We're very proud to have invested in the technology that enables us to tailor your results to your specific skin type. We offer fully ablative CO2 laser skin resurfacing, fractional ablative CO2 laser skin resurfacing, several different types of Erbium skin resurfacing devices, and non-ablative fractional resurfacing devices like the Icon 1540 non-ablative fractional laser resurfacing.

In addition to these resurfacing methods, we also offer five different IPL machines that are used to treat brown spots, red spots, and spider veins. Whatever your specific skin concerns may be, we have a laser to address them.

How can I maintain my laser skin resurfacing results?

Our practice is home to a number of fully trained, highly qualified medical aestheticians and skincare experts that will work with you to create a regimen to maintain and improve your results. Your regimen will be tailored to your skin type and will include proven pharmaceutical-grade products such as Vitamin C creams, retinol, and hydroquinone.

How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

The price of laser skin resurfacing varies based on the training and experience of your laser specialist, the type of device used, and the regions to be treated. Popular laser skin resurfacing treatment areas include around the eyes or mouth, full face, neck, chest, and hands.

During your consultation at either our Melbourne or Merritt Island, Florida office, your provider will discuss your goals, develop a treatment plan, and provide a custom quote. Generally, the cost for these treatments ranges between $1,500 and $12,000.

How much does laser treatment for acne scars cost?
