Cosmetic surgery procedures vary in popularity depending on where you live, according to data on RealSelf.com. Here in the Northeast, nose jobs are big business. Interested in a buttock implant? The odds are you’re not a New Yorker.
But if getting a nose job is on your radar, it’s more likely you live in the Northeast, where 55% more searches for this operation were performed than in other areas of the country, according to new data released by RealSelf.com.
In the South, interest in body slimming is high - there are 20% more searches for tummy tucks, liposuction and other fat-battling operations, according to the data. The Pacific Northwest has a big interest in breast reduction surgery. In fact, that geographic region outpaces others by 67% in terms of searches.

Nose jobs are big in the Northeast. Not only are they a big search item, but the data shows that 30% of all nose reshaping operations occur in New England and the Middle Atlantic regions.
Buttock implants are more popular in the South Atlantic region than anywhere else in the U.S., according to the data. A lot of South Americans live in the Florida area, McGuire points out, or it’s possible that South Americans travel to Florida for their surgery, McGuire said.
“Genetically, people from Brazil have been blessed with elegant elevation of the musculature of the buttock and natural body curvature lines,” Sadick explains. “It is a sign of beauty and a sign that your body is in good shape.”
Not so much in the Northeast, though. Nose jobs are often the procedure residents search for, both here and on the West Coast.
“In certain areas, it has almost become a rite of passage to have your nose fixed and straightened when you’re a teenager,” McGuire told msnbc.com. “It used to be teens would have their nose fixed during summer vacation or spring break, but now they want to go back to school with their splint on. It’s a sign their parents are rich enough to get their nose done.”
“The recession means a lot of people are doing Botox, chemical peels, fillers. I see a lot more women taking care of their skin with products.”
Now if only they would come up with a do-it-yourself nose job.
