BELLAFILL: The Five-Year Filler
If you like the results of dermal filler treatment such as Juvederm and Restylane, you’ll LOVE Bellafill! Award-winning Facial Plastic Surgeon Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS is pleased to offer his patients this new FDA-approved treatment that’s known as the “Five-Year Filler” for achieving semi-permanent outcomes that rejuvenate the face with beautiful, natural-looking results. These days, many of our patients are seeking to restore their youthful appearance by reducing smile lines around the mouth. Over the years, we commonly lose volume in our face, which increases the appearance of wrinkles and folds and creates sunken, sagging cheeks. And while some treatments do offer a temporary solution, most patients prefer a more long-lasting result. If you share this common cosmetic goal, our Bellafill treatment might be perfect for you.

What Is Bellafill?
Bellafill is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that involves an injection into the cheeks or the nasolabial folds, commonly known as “smile lines.” The procedure smooths away facial wrinkles while restoring volume to rejuvenate the face. Bellafill results are immediate and long-lasting with no surgery and no downtime. Additionally, Bellafill is the only available dermal filler deemed effective and safe for the treatment of acne scars.
How Does Bellafill Work?
Approved by the FDA as a result of a five-year study of more than 1000 patients, Bellafill features polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. PMMA is one of the most widely used materials in medicine for the past 65 years. Bellafill helps to regenerate your skin’s own collagen structure, creating a firmer, more youthful appearance. The product is composed of a local anesthetic lidocaine and microsphere-enhanced natural collagen gel. Over time, the collagen is absorbed by the body, while the microspheres create a matrix that supports production of your body’s own collagen, resulting in lasting correction. Prior to use of the product, patients undergo a simple allergy skin test to ensure safety.

Who Are The Best Candidates For The Procedure?
The best candidates for the procedure are individuals who have had prior dermal filler treatment and who wish a more long-lasting result. Additionally, for correction of facial acne scars, patients should be at least 21 years of age.
How Long Will The Results Last?
Bellafill results are immediate and long-lasting for up to five years. Unlike other types of dermal fillers that require reinjection every 12 months, Bellafill is a semi-permanent filler.
How Long Does The Bellafill Procedure Take?
Bellafill is a nonsurgical procedure that takes approximately 15-30 minutes and has no downtime.
The Recovery Process
Treatment with Bellafill requires little to no downtime. In most cases, patients will be able to resume normal activities immediately, including strenuous activities such as intense exercise.
Where Does The Procedure Take Place?
Bellafill treatment takes place in the office setting. Clevens Face and Body Specialists has three convenient locations in Melbourne and Merritt Island,
What Is The Dosage For Bellafill?
The dosage of Bellafill used during the cosmetic procedure varies. At Clevens Face and Body Specialists, you and your provider develop a treatment plan together based on your goals. Dosage requirements for acne scars may vary. Your doctor will decide what dosage amount is appropriate in light of your unique condition.
Do The Injections Hurt?
Bellafill contains an anesthetic called lidocaine to optimize your comfort throughout the procedure. For your added comfort, our providers may use numbing medicine in the area that will be treated with a local anesthetic agent. Providers often administer Bellafill treatment using a cannula device to prevent bruising and to minimize or reduce any discomfort.
Although rare, there are several side effects associated with the use of Bellafill. They include:
Some of the less common side effects include:
- Persistent redness or swelling
- Rash (after 48 hours)
- Sensitivity at the injection site
Individuals who have medical conditions that impact the blood, use NSAIDs, or take aspirin may experience more bleeding or bruising at the site of injection. Additionally, you should tell your doctor in the event that you are:
- receiving UV light therapy
- have received dermal filler treatments within 6 months
- are currently using immunosuppressive therapy (this medication is prescribed for individuals who are suffering from cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and various other conditions)
