For many people, getting fit is a journey that can hit a wall very close to the end goal. Problem areas, such as isolated pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise, can be extremely frustrating. For many, liposuction is the perfect solution to these troublesome areas, resolving stubborn fat and contouring the body. No two bodies are alike, however, and everyone has different needs.
Unfortunately, so many of the traditional methods for body contouring end up being “cookie cutter” solutions, a one-size-fits all approach—which can’t possibly be a fit for every patient’s needs. Liponique™ Custom Body Contouring is a refreshing new option designed to help each and every patient get the best possible result, every time.
Available exclusively at Clevens Face and Body Specialists, Liponique™ is a body contouring technique that takes each patient’s individual goals into consideration when planning the surgical procedure, as well as selecting the right tools to achieve those goals. Unlike some practices that may only have one or two devices at their disposal, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Amy Simon (formerly Dr. Ortega), MD is an experienced doctor with an array of options available to her when performing a Liponique™ procedure. This means Dr. Simon is able to combine different liposuction and body sculpting technologies, such as the latest laser or power-assisted techniques, to yield the best results for each patient.
The Liponique™ consultation is extremely important, because the procedure is so customized. During your consultation, you will meet with Dr. Simon to discuss your individual goals for Liponique™. Dr. Simon will assess your candidacy and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the procedure. Together, you and Dr. Simon will create a surgical plan for accomplishing your goals, and you will learn more about the surgery itself and the recovery period.
Good candidates for liposuction are healthy adults who are struggling with the last few pounds or problem areas that remain despite healthy lifestyle efforts. A stable weight should be achieved before the Liponique™ procedure is performed. Patients should be realistic about their expectations and be willing to maintain their results with a healthy lifestyle after the surgery.
The Liponique™ procedure will take place at an AAAHC accredited outpatient facility for patient comfort and safety. Before the surgery begins, Dr. Simon will draw on the areas of the body to be treated in order to create a diagram for the procedure. This enables Dr. Simon to precisely plan the procedure for each patient’s best results.
Typically, general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation will be used during the procedure, but in some cases, local anesthesia alone may be sufficient. Anesthesia is administered by board certified anesthesiologists. Dr. Simon offers all her patients the option of adding Exparel, a long-acting local anesthetic, in the treated areas for optimum comfort after the procedure.
Liponique™ takes from one to four hours, depending on the extent of the procedure. Incision placement will vary, depending on the area or areas to be treated, but the minimally invasive techniques used will help ensure any scars will be small and discreet. Dr. Simon will make incisions according to the customized pre-surgical plan before using a long slender tube known as a cannula to suction out the fat. Following this process, the incisions will be closed and a compression dressing applied to the treated area.
The recovery from Liponique™ depends largely on the extent of the treatment. Some patients feel well enough to resume desk work the next day, but others should factor in about a week for recovery. All patients will need to wear a compression garment during the recovery period to help support the body through the healing process. Swelling and bruising can be expected, but should subside gradually, with significant healing over the first one to two weeks of recovery. Residual swelling may take longer to resolve fully. Modest exercise such as walking is encouraged starting the day of surgery, although patients will need to avoid strenuous activity (lifting, strenuous exercise etc.) for about six weeks following the procedure. Dissolvable stitches are generally used, which do not need to be removed after surgery.
What types of body contouring techniques are used in Liponique™?
Dr. Simon is an expert in several different liposuction and other body sculpting techniques, offering our patients the advantage to mix and match different methods in order to give each patient optimal results. Some of the techniques that may be used include:
- Wells Johnson
- Power-Assisted Liposuction
- SmartLipo Laser Liposuction
- SculpSure Laser Treatment for Non-Invasive Fat Reduction
What are the risks of Liponique™?
Modern body contouring techniques, including liposuction, are extremely safe, but all surgery carries some risk, no matter how small. Risks related to all surgery include bleeding, infection, and anesthesia complications. Liposuction-specific risks include indentations and body contour irregularities. However, an experienced surgeon like Dr. Amy Simon can greatly minimize these risks.
How much does Liponique™ cost?
There are several affordable financing options available for Dr. Simon’s patients. Many financing options include 0% interest for up to 18 months, and estimates are available within one hour at our practice. Payment options are flexible and accessible for many prospective patients.
Are the results long-lasting?
Fat cells that are removed during the liposuction process are destroyed, so in this sense, liposuction is long-lasting. However, other fat cells can expand, causing weight gain after the procedure. This is why it is important that patients maintain a stable weight before and after Liponique™, to ensure the body contouring benefits of the procedure last indefinitely. Changes to the body from aging will eventually affect the results, but Liponique™ is a long-term solution to problem areas.
Won’t enough diet and exercise yield the same results?
Unfortunately, there are some areas of stubborn fat that simply resist diet and exercise, despite hard work and time. Many people are at a healthy, stable weight, but still struggle with problem areas. Liponique™ is intended to sculpt these areas for spot fat reduction and improved contour.
How do I pick a surgeon for my body contouring procedure?
Liposuction should be a personalized treatment performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Simon. Avoid the “cookie cutter” experience of many clinics that do not customize the procedure to suit each patient’s needs. Aside from experience, skill, and flexibility, you should choose a plastic surgeon with whom you can develop rapport and trust.
