Now trending! We’re seeing more and more patients in our office in their 20s and 30s who are taking a whole new approach to anti-aging. Rather than treating lines and wrinkles that have formed around the eyes, they’re getting Botox treatments for prevention to keep the signs of aging from showing up at all!

When we are young, the wrinkling of the skin at the brow and forehead may only be noticeable when we react to an event, concentrate on a task, or squint when we walk out into the sun.

But over the years, if left untreated, the furrowing causes lines and wrinkles to develop around your eyes when expressing yourself. Eventually, these lines can deepen and show up even when your face is relaxed. At this stage, treatment with Botox alone cannot completely address the permanent wrinkles and more invasive treatments such as laser skin resurfacing or surgery may be necessary.

The beauty of starting Botox treatment of your brow, forehead, and crow’s feet in your early 30s, is that along with a daily skincare routine, your treatment can prevent these wrinkles from forming in the first place. Even in your 40s and 50s, it is not too late to start addressing excessive motion of the culprit's muscles.

Once the tension of the muscles is removed or reduced, the skin relaxes into a smooth contour. As the treatment calms the restless forehead muscles, it helps retrain their posture and movement memory due to your natural capacity of neuroplasticity. What that means is that Botox helps you break the habit of “the frown”- protecting the canvas of your face and keeping it smooth.

Our specialists are very experienced in treating all the common areas of the face that tend to develop signs of aging. Most patients seeking Botox treatment do so because the wrinkles between their brows and the crow’s feet make them feel like they are stuck in a single unhappy, tired expression. Indeed, the brow, forehead, and corners of the eyes are the areas most prone to developing wrinkles early. That is why treating these three zones targets the excessive motion at the root cause of wrinkle formation in these areas. Plus, this approach is proven to work synergistically with treatments that restore elasticity of the skin and facial volume such as fillers, lasers, and RF microneedling. The treatment can also be customized. For example, if you prefer to express yourself more, then your provider can plan a more conservative treatment for you. Whether your preference is to keep more or less movement, treatment in these areas generally provides the greatest benefit in delaying the most visible signs of aging. However recent research shows that treatment of the brow region has the additional benefit of improving mood and decreasing symptoms of depression. There is probably no clearer way to demonstrate that self-care is not skin deep.

Beyond its use in slowing signs of aging, Botox is a very effective targeted treatment of muscles responsible for facial asymmetries such as uneven brows or uneven smile, and blepharospasm (twitching eyelid) in patients of any age. Over the last couple of decades, Botox has grown into a pillar of a multi-approach regimen for preventing and minimizing signs of aging and muscle and skin imperfections, but it can also be a fun way to explore changes in your appearance. It is a safe and proven technique that can help reinvent your look at any age. Along with long-lasting fillers, advanced Botox injection techniques can be used to accomplish a variety of focused augmentations to facial appearance including the “Lip Flip,” temporary “brow lift,” the “Nefertiti neck lift,” or shaping your jawline with the “masseter injection,” “chin dimple.” These novel areas of treatment are particularly popular in younger patients but no one is ever too old to have fun with their appearance and enjoy the confidence-boost a change can give you.

At Clevens Face and Body Specialists, each of our providers is fully trained in advanced injectable treatments including Botox and a variety of fillers, and can advise you on the optimal treatment course to meet your goals. We also have a full line of medical-grade skin care products available, giving you the full armamentarium to hold off the visible signs of aging for many years to come.
