The Truth About Cellulite

Cellulite is an incredibly common phenomenon and can be seen in the vast majority of people, including men and women who are in prime health. It can frequently be noticed as dimpling of the skin on the:

  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Pelvic region

Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not comprised of fatty tissue, and therefore cannot be targeted through diet and exercise. Rather, cellulite is caused by bands of connective tissue under the skin that surround fat cells. When these fat cells increase in size, the expansion causes them to push against the skin, creating a dimpled appearance.

How Cellulite Forms on the Body

Cellulite is most noticeable in individuals with thin skin and tends to be more common in women than men due to a higher occurrence of cellulite-forming fat and connective tissue. However, it is still not clear why some people develop cellulite and others do not.

Some factors that may contribute to the presence of cellulite include:

  • Hormones
  • Genetics
  • Diet
  • Lifestyle

Managing the Presence of Cellulite

Hormones, including estrogen, insulin, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are frequently responsible for the development of cellulite. Other causes can include metabolism problems, circulatory issues, and fat distribution—all of which are attributed to genetics, and tend to be out of our control.

What patients can manage, however, is diet and lifestyle. Individuals who smoke, are inactive, and consume high amounts of fat and carbohydrates tend to be more susceptible to the formation of cellulite.

Age and weight fluctuations may also be contributors. Given that even the most health-conscious patients can wind up seeing cellulite form on their bodies, the only true solution is to address the combination of fibrous bands and trapped fat deposits, which can be accomplished with Cellulaze.

How Does Cellulaze Work?

Cellulaze is effective due to its ability to target the structure of cellulite with advanced laser technology, addressing the problem at its source. Laser energy is first directed to the dermis—the lower layers of your skin—to increase its volume and elasticity.

At the same time, thermal energy is used to sever the bands of connective tissue, reducing their ability to contribute to the appearance of cellulite. Finally, Cellulaze contours the underlying lumps of fat, smoothing your skin’s surface and finalizing your results.

Am I a Candidate for Cellulaze?

You’re a great candidate for Cellulaze if you’re in generally good health and have moderate cellulite. We advise that you be at a stable weight that is relatively close to your target weight. The procedure works best for patients who are nonsmokers, and it is always important that you have realistic expectations for its outcomes.

If you find that you don’t fit this description perfectly, you may still be a good candidate, though it is important to note that your results may be impacted.

Patients may not see the same dramatic results if they are overweight or currently smoke, and we’ll discuss everything about what you can expect during your consultation so you have clear and realistic expectations. In addition to the Cellulaze treatment, our practice is one of the first in the Merritt Island and Melbourne, FL areas to offer Qwo, the only FDA-approved nonsurgical option for the safe and effective treatment of cellulite. Qwo enables patients to treat the buttocks and more with a quick and easy in-office procedure.

Your Consultation

Our practice prides itself on its ability to offer you a wide range of treatments, so your consultation represents an important opportunity for us to explore those options together. We’ll get to know your goals, your health history, and your physical characteristics before guiding you to the procedural options that are right for you and your personal goals.

We’ll work closely with you to design a bespoke treatment plan before scheduling your procedure, in addition to scheduling both pre- and post-procedural visits that will help us prepare for your amazing results.
