Procedure: Body Contouring After Weight Loss

A procedure customized to your body.

Our breast and body specialists will recommend a tailored treatment plan, combining plastic surgery techniques designed to help you meet your goals. These may include arm lift (brachioplasty), thigh lift, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), body lift (belt lipectomy), breast lift (mastopexy), and even facelift (rhytidectomy). Before surgery begins, our breast and body specialists will discuss incision placement to ensure the most aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Our specialists perform all surgical procedures alongside an anesthesiologist in a fully accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) that exceeds the most stringent state and national accreditation standards, providing you the highest level of safety available. Since body contouring procedures often combine multiple surgeries, the process may take several hours to complete.

Recovery: Body Contouring After Weight Loss

A complete makeover that requires two weeks of downtime.

Most patients are able to walk as soon as they get home, though we recommend taking it easy for about two weeks after surgery. Despite the complexity of body contouring procedures, most patients are able to return to their full routine, including exercise, within six weeks.

Some fullness is expected immediately after surgery. Dressings are applied immediately after the procedure to reduce this. You may have drains after surgery, which are removed as soon as drainage stops. We always recommend having a friend or family member accompany you and help you in the days following your treatment.

What Our Patients Say

Hear from one of our body contouring patients.

“How I feel today compared to where I was even a year and a half ago, I will put it on a scale from 1 to 10: I was a 1 a year and a half ago and I’m 500 today.”

Body Contouring FAQ

Are there post-surgery responsibilities for the patient?

Patients will wear compression after the surgery until otherwise instructed by our breast and body specialists. After surgery, body contouring patients should try to maintain a stable weight through diet and exercise in order to avoid disturbing or reversing the results of the procedure.

How long is the recovery period for a body lift?

Recovery periods can vary. A body contouring procedure is a detailed operation that involves multiple techniques tailored to the individual patient. However, while our breast and body specialists will detail your specific recovery timetable, patients can be expect to be back to a full routine within six weeks of the procedure.

What are the benefits of body contouring surgery?

The body lift can give patients who have undergone significant weight loss a reduction of excess skin, a flatter profile, and a slimmer look. The procedure removes excess fat and skin that exercise and dieting alone cannot.

Is body contouring a weight loss procedure?

No. While body contouring can help remove stubborn fat deposits, it is not a procedure used for large-scale weight loss. Indeed, ideal candidates for the surgery are those who have already lost the majority of their weight and are now at a stable weight.
