Why Get Botox?

The most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment.

The most sought-after non-surgical treatment for men and women at Clevens Face and Body Specialists, Botox helps you achieve a more youthful look without surgery. Our team also has expertise in other popular injectables, including Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuveau. These neuromodulators are made from a purified protein that temporarily relaxes your facial muscles to fade or eliminate wrinkles caused by repeated movements, such as squinting, frowning, or concentrating.

With any injectable, the injector is as important as the product. Look for an experienced injector who understands the anatomy of the face, knows where to place the injections, and performs treatments in a safe, clean environment. At Clevens Face and Body Specialists, all of our master injectors are skilled with the artistry of facial rejuvenation.

If you’re looking to diminish and smooth the appearance of frown lines, forehead furrows, crow’s feet, and other facial lines and wrinkles without surgery, you may consider Botox or another injectable.

Botox Benefits

Eliminate wrinkles for several months.

Not only are injectables safe, the procedure is also so brief that you can do it during a lunch break. You can also repeat this procedure as many times as you’d like, which is why most of our patients opt to schedule recurring maintenance appointments.

Injections last about three months and help address dynamic wrinkles, the wrinkles that appear or are more apparent with facial expression, including:

  • Horizontal forehead lines and furrows
  • Vertical brow creases, known as “the elevens”
  • Crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes)
  • Prominent vertical bands in the neck
  • Bunny lines (lines around the nose)

For static wrinkles, or those that are present without any facial expression, your master injector can discuss the best treatment options during your consultation.

Botox Procedure

Quick, gentle, and effective.

A brief, in-office procedure that lasts months, Botox and other injectables offer you major results in comparison with the simplicity of the procedure. First, your master injector will examine your ability to move facial muscles to determine where he or she will administer the injections. Then, you’ll receive several treatments carefully and gently placed directly into the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to form. An experienced specialist who is skilled in the art of facial rejuvenation can perform your treatment as conservatively as you wish for the most natural-looking results. Alternatively, your provider can soften facial animation to the extent you desire to achieve your goals. At Clevens Face and Body Specialists, we schedule a follow-up appointment about two weeks after your Botox treatment to discuss your results and perform a touch-up, if needed, to ensure your complete satisfaction with your outcome.

While most patients find their Botox treatment is virtually painless, some opt for anesthetic cream to help numb the area prior to having their procedure. You may experience a sensation similar to a pinprick or a mild burning sensation when the product is injected, but this is typically very brief. Injections can take just 10 minutes to complete.

Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, Jeuveau FAQs

What is Botox?

It’s a non-surgical procedure that rejuvenates facial appearance, and can be used to lessen the appearance of forehead furrows, frown lines, crow’s feet, and lines and wrinkles of the lower face and neck. Is a simple procedure that is especially effective in patients experiencing early signs of aging. The face is the most expressive part of our body, conveying joy in laughter or smiling, and frustration or worry through frowning and forehead furrows. Eventually these emotions become etched into our faces, even at rest, leaving us looking older than we feel. Botox erases these lines, leaving the patient with noticeably smoother skin without the need for surgery.

How experienced is Dr. Clevens in performing Botox treatments?

Dr. Clevens has been named one of the 100 Most Experienced Botox physicians in the United States. In Brevard County, Dr. Clevens uses more Botox than everyone else in the county combined. Dr. Clevens has been honored with esteemed appointment to Allergan’s Botox National Education Faculty for Botox injections. Allergan’s National Education Faculty (NEF) is a prestigious society of Medical Doctors who have been certified by Allergan not only in administering Botox treatments, but specifically certified by Allergan to train other physicians in the administration of Botox Cosmetic. Dr. Clevens’s membership in the NEF assures you the highest level of skill and expertise in the administration of Botox injections

Why is Botox so popular?

This treatment has gained great popularity, and for good reason. Starting Botox treatments before or at the first signs of wrinkles is great preventive maintenance, helping patients stop the signs of aging and delaying the need for more invasive procedures. For many men and women, this treatment is as routine as getting a haircut or using sunscreen. You can receive injections indefinitely and its effectiveness will not lessen.

How does Botox work?

Is a highly refined purified protein that has been proven safe in millions of injections over the past decade and a half. When injected through the skin into the muscles responsible for facial wrinkling, it softens the muscle. Since the muscle is temporarily weakened, the appearance of lines and wrinkles is greatly smoothed.

Who is the best candidate for Botox injections?

The best candidates for this treatment include physically healthy people who are realistic in their expectations and desire to improve the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. This treatment offers an exceptional opportunity to smooth lines and wrinkles affecting the brow, forehead and crow’s feet in a brief, safe procedure that takes just a few minutes and lasts for several months. Keep in mind, Botox is not a cure-all, and may not be the solution to deep lines and creases. Other procedures such as Restlyane, Radiesse and skin resurfacing may address more advanced signs of aging, which Dr. Clevens will be happy to discuss with you during your initial consultation.

Which wrinkles can Botox treat?

There are two different types of wrinkles on the face: static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles. Static wrinkles are present even with complete stillness and lack of expression on the face. Dynamic wrinkles are those that appear or become significantly more apparent with facial expression. This treatment is ideal for dynamic wrinkles of the face and is used to relax those facial muscles whose excessive action causes wrinkling of the skin. For example, the deep lines between the eyebrows (frown lines) are the most popular treatment sites.

Is anesthesia used during the Botox injection?

Dr. Clevens uses a very fine needle to carefully place Botox. Anesthesia is typically not required. If pain is a concern of yours, use of a cold pack or anesthetic cream can help to numb the area.

How is the actual Botox injection performed?

Dr. Clevens will examine your ability to move facial muscles in order to determine where the Botox injections should be administered. Using a small syringe containing the Botox product, Dr. Clevens will then administer several tiny injections directly into the muscles.

How long does the actual treatment take to perform?

Part of the beauty of this treatment in the simplicity of the procedure in comparison with it’s effectiveness – the injections can take just ten minutes to complete in the skilled hands of Dr. Clevens.

Is the Botox injection painful?

Is just like any other injection. Patients may experience a sensation similar to a pin prick or experience a slight burning sensation when the product is injected, but this is typically very brief. The needle used is very small and slender.

What is the recovery like after Botox? Will I need to take time off from work after the treatment?

Recovery may be an inappropriate word for the time after receiving the treatment, because patients are immediately able to return to their usual activities. Patients can have injections performed on their lunch hour and return to work afterwards. Some minor pain, inflammation, swelling, redness or bruising may occur at the injection site, and is temporary. Botox typically takes three to five days for treatment to show its effect.

What are the risks or complications associated with Botox?

This treatment is generally a safe procedure, though patients should be informed that every medical procedure carries certain risks and the potential for complications. Potential side effects or complications of the procedure may include bruising, numbness, temporary eyelid droop and failure to achieve a fully satisfactory result.

How long do the results of Botox last?

After your procedure, you can expect your results to last about three months. A gradual fade in it’s effectiveness will be experienced, after which repeat treatments will be necessary to maintain the results. This procedure can be repeated indefinitely.

What Our Patients Say

Hear from one of our patients.

“I have been so self-conscious of my forehead lines for years and recently just could hardly stand seeing them in my reflection—they were all I would notice! Finally I bit the bullet and went in for some injectables ... It was virtually painless, I was in and out quickly, and the best part is, I noticed a difference within just a few days. And now—I LOVE my forehead! I can't believe what a difference it made!” –TamaraHerchel, review on RealSelf
