A thick, full, head of hair is an important part of your appearance and can have a major impact on both your self-image and the way other people see you. More than 60 million people, both male and female, currently suffer from baldness or thinning hair. For many of these people traditional hair transplant methods are less than ideal because of the recovery time, potential for scarring, and possible side effects like numbness. For these kinds of patients, new hair loss solutions like NeoGraft can offer a thicker head of hair without the pain or linear scar that can come with older methods.
What Is NeoGraft?
NeoGraft Hair Restoration system is a way to transplant hair using the Follicular Unit Extraction method. It uses an automated system to help ensure accuracy and precision and is the least invasive procedure currently available for hair transplants. This means minimal downtime, fewer restrictions on activities during recovery, and less discomfort during and after the procedure.
Unlike traditional strip transplants, which remove a long strip of hair from the back of the head, NeoGraft removes hair follicles from the scalp in naturally-occurring groups of 1-4 follicles. These follicles are then placed on the scalp in the bald or thinning areas. Since follicles are removed in very small clusters, scarring is minimal and naturally dispersed across the head so that it isn’t noticeable, resulting in a very natural appearance. Pain is also minimized because no incision is necessary.
Hair Restoration Candidates
Ideal candidates for hair transplant with NeoGraft include anyone who suffers from hair loss. If you would like a thicker, fuller head of hair (with the option of wearing very short haircuts on the back and sides of their scalp), you can do so without worrying about scars showing. The NeoGraft FUE System is also a good choice for athletes and other very active individuals who would like a shorter recovery time with fewer restrictions. Patients who have already had a hair transplant with linear harvest can also benefit from NeoGraft, since it can be used for scar camouflaging procedures for both men and women. If you think NeoGraft may be a good option for you, schedule a one-on-one consultation to receive a professional opinion on whether you’re a good candidate for the procedure. During this consultation, you’ll also be able to discuss timing, recovery, and payment options.
Once you arrive in our office at 707 West Eau Gallie Boulevard in Melbourne, FL, your procedure will take place in two parts. The first part is donor harvesting. After the back of your scalp is anesthetized, you’ll lay face-down for two to four hours while the individual groups of follicles are extracted from your scalp using the NeoGraft device.
Once the harvesting phase is finished, you’ll take a short break before proceeding with the placement part of the procedure. During this latter phase, the front of your scalp will be anesthetized, and you’ll need to sit upright while the groups of follicles are placed into the frontal scalp using small incisions. Once this is over, you’ll be able to go home the same day.
You can expect your hair grafts to be raised slightly in the first one to two weeks after the procedure. After three or four days, they’ll start to scab over, so you’ll need to be gentle when interacting with the scalp in any way for the first two weeks. This includes protecting the grafts from wind and sun, taking care to not use force when showering, and being careful not to disrupt them in any way with hands or objects while they’re still in the healing process.
Most patients require just a day or two of recovery before returning to work. In many cases, the procedure can be scheduled on a Friday in order to resume work on Monday. Strenuous activities like exercise can generally be resumed in two weeks.
Risks and Complications
Like any surgical procedure, NeoGraft carries a rare but possible risk of infection, bleeding, and poor reaction to the local anesthetics used. There is also a small chance that the transplanted grafts will not take well.
