She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond where she was a recipient of the Dean's Scholarship and served in numerous leadership roles, including as a VCU student representative to the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives. During medical school, she also contributed to research on pediatric B lymphoblastic lymphoma and the association between arachnoid granulations and pulsatile tinnitus.
Dr. Florence has been an active researcher and presenter throughout her training, with journal publications and numerous poster and oral presentations at national meetings including the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation Annual Meeting, the American Head & Neck Society International Conference, and the Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings. Her research has covered topics ranging from dysphonia referral patterns and pediatric aerodigestive program outcomes to swallowing rehabilitation using motor imagery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Missouri State Medical Association, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery.
